#6: A list of floral things we adore 🌺😍
Dear flower lovers,
It’s a new year, and there’s been so much blossoming happening already. I’m partially referring to the pink tabebuia blooms of Cubbon Park and the mauve morning glory overgrowth in Fort Kochi. But inwardly too, my relationship with flowers has been deepening. I’m tracking the seasonal flowers in my neighborhood as promptly as I track my periods, foraging has become a daily ritual, and everywhere I go, flowers are speaking to me in their soft planty-voice. (Yes, I speak to them too.)
Floral Finds 😍
I’m excited to try a new format for the newsletter this year, with a Messy Ness Chic-inspired list of all things floral and lovely:
This is such a beautiful ode to the gajra:
We are a little obsessed with @hemuvenkat’s #OneHundredPortraitsProject, where she creates gorgeous collages using portraits and flowers. Much yum.
I’m trying to do the same thing this year:
“One of my resolutions for the year is to learn how to identify more of the trees and flowers where I live. Of course, once you learn the names of trees and flowers, you want to know their personal histories as well—so I have a great pile of botanical guidebooks growing on my bedside table already.”
-Elizabeth GilbertBrett Foxwell meticulously collected over 12,000 leaves while walking through forests and parks. Then he carefully arranged the leaves, many at different stage of development, into a stop motion sequence.
Can’t stop looking at these floral textile sculptures by Lauren Pruen:
The playful series Leaf Man by flower artist Azuma Makoto made me grin:
Stolen Specimens by Karan Dave (@breakfastat___tiffanys):
I’ve been listening to this delicious album called murmurations by Deadstar on loop. The flowers in my garden like dancing to it too.
Last year, I came across a most incredible publication called Where The Leaves Fall, and fell in love with #TheNatureKind, a series of conversations with nature-lovers who live, create and act for the planet. Check out the full catalog here.
M&S Schmalberg is the last factory handcrafting custom fabric flowers in New York’s historic garment district. The family business has designed flowers for celebrities and designers since 1916. But competition from overseas flower manufacturers has made it difficult to stay afloat. See the full video below:

-your mother in the garden with her flowers
-practising self care with flowers
Inviting all flower lovers to share your photographs on Flowers x Love to community@hoovufresh.com. We'll feature our favorite submissions from February 1st to 14th on Instagram @hoovufinds.
Takeover Alert
We’re all set to go on a floral journey with the lovely Priyanka Vasagam (@meraki.blues.studio) this Sunday on our Instagram page @hoovufinds! 🌸
Priyanka is a visual artist based in Boston. Eclectic and expressive, Priyanka’s compositions are reflective of her experiences and memories stemming from her Indian heritage. Her mixed media practice includes digital painting, acrylic, gouache, and soft pastel mediums. Excited to see what she’s got in store for us 😍
Workshop Alert 🌹🌈
One of our favorite flower humans - Manya Cherabuddi - is coming to Bangalore for a natural dye workshop as part of the Natural Color Festival, and @hoovufresh is sending fresh flowers to experiment and play with. Her workshop will take place on 22nd January, 3pm to 4pm. DM @manya_cherabuddi to book your slot. ✨🌈🌷
That’s all for this month, flower lovers. Wishing you joy and wonder! Also, please do share the newsletter / tell your friends to subscribe. It would mean so much.
Sending floral love,
Rohini
